Privacy, how to protect yourself from telemarketing

Companies and private citizens experience every day an increasingly aggressive and annoying telemarketing which it is hard to protect from. However there are rules for this and we can make use of them.

According to a taken in 20 Septembre 2012, the Guarantor of Privacy specified that legal people, authorities, organizations and private citizens have the right not to be contacted if they are listed in the Record of Oppositions. In such a case they should not receive any phone calls, fax or sms from automatic systems.

Companies, as much as privates, are protected by rules concerning Electronic communications, since they are contracting parties. This notion, which replaced that of “subscriber”, according to the directive 2002/587CE, it is applicable to natural and legal people indiscriminately.

But what should be done in order to concretely oppose telemarketing?

Subscribers, now defined contractors, whose names and numbers are in the telephone book and that don’t want to receive advertising calls can achieve it by signing to the Public Record of Oppositions, created with the D.P.R. 178/2010. Registering is free, there is no time limit and it can be revoked in case there is a change of heart allowing advertising calls to be received again.

In order to register, the Guarantor indicates five different ways:
